For the Midwest couple looking for woodsy perfection on their wedding day, Pinewood Weddings & Events is an incredible venue just about an hour north of the Twin Cities. It’a a true hidden gem in the middle of the pine forest and is a truly beautiful space, inside and out.
There’s hardly a space in the property that isn’t gorgeous, but here are some of my favorite spaces for wedding portraits at Pinewood.
Window Wall
As many wedding photographers will attest to, light indoors can be tricky. The yellow, overhead lights indoors can create shadows and result in dark, less flattering photos. And keeping that in mind, the more natural light we can get indoors, the better.
Enter the window walls of the reception space at Pinewood. Both sides of the large room are lined in huge windows, letting in lots of ultra-flattering, natural light. It’s truly a photographer’s dream. The bright light coming in contrasted with the black windowpanes creates a great neutral backdrop for first looks, couple’s portraits or wedding party photos.
Getting-Ready Space
The getting-ready space is a gorgeous spot on the second floor at Pinewood. There’s ample mirror space for your whole crew to fix their hair and makeup and plenty of space so you don’t feel cramped. The windows fill the space with that same lovely natural light for great pics of you and your people.
Bonus: the unique floor tiles make for an awesome backdrop for detail photos with your jewelry, flowers, rings and stationery.
Outdoor Ceremony Space
The real crowned jewel for Pinewood is their outdoor ceremony space. The backdrop of thousands of tall pines feels uniquely Minnesotan. The sun peaks through the trees a few hours before sunset, which creates some seriously dreamy lighting for saying “I do!”
The space also allows for you to customize the backdrop by adding florals, arches or leaving the backdrop sweet and simple.
Exterior of Building
The woods aren’t the only beautiful backdrop for your love. The building itself is stunning and offers all kinds of unique spots to snap a few photos. Whether it’s the gorgeous front of the venue, under the twinkle lights outside or the solid black wall near the reception space, you truly can’t go wrong.

There are trails both in front of and behind the venue and spots all along the property for these sweet moment together in the woods.
